It has long been the vision of Dr. Jenkins to train people for the ministry. That vision birthed the Grace Baptist Bible Institute in the fall of 1993. For ten years this Institute serviced not only the part time layman, but the full time servant, sending many into the local church and missions ministry where they continue today.
That same vision took another turn on January 11, 2003, when Dr. Jenkins called a meeting with every Grace Baptist Church leader. When the prospect of a full time day schedule of college was presented, it was met with energetic acceptance. Other subsequent meetings were planned, and the church finally voted unanimously to start Grace Baptist College.
A College Planning Committee was created and subdivided into four different teams. Each had an aspect of the College’s life to investigate and report back to the main body – infrastructure, finances, facilities, faculty, academics, student life, etc. In an April meeting at the Annex property, it was agreed we would open doors that fall.
What a summer that was getting ready for the fall semester! A massive renovation plan required literally round-the-clock carpentry, painting, electrical, clean up, etc. managed by then-asst pastor Lowell Griffin, presently a missionary to the Philippines. Evangelist Dan Martin, our first college Dean, led this pioneering work the first two years of its inception. 42 students enrolled that first semester and for the next three years, enrollment grew every semester.
Since then the college continues to renovate its buildings, computer labs, dormitories, offices, classrooms, etc. while purchasing new buildings. The future is bright.
